We are now providing safety and accessibility modifications for elderly and disabled homeowners or residents within a home through our Safe at Home program. The Safe at Home program is small safety and accessibility modifications, especially in the bathroom to prevent falls within a home.  More than one third of adults 65 and older fall each year in the United States (Hornbrooke et al. 1994; Hausdorff et al. 2001).  Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury deaths. they are also the most common cause of nonfatal injuries and hospital admissions for trauma (DC 2006. Although these statistics are on true on a national level they do closely correlate with the Pitt County and North Carolina statistics.  RTPC wants to provide adults and disabled individuals with a safer environment to age in place.
